Ajee Williams, 30, was charged with first-degree murder, Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay said in a news release on Monday, Sept. 30. She was wanted in the crash that killed 41-year-old Carla Mahan of Camden on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Camden County police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the intersection of South Seventh and Tulip streets at around 3:21 p.m. Mahan was rushed to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m.

Williams surrendered at Camden County police headquarters on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Mahan was a single mother of three teens, FOX 29 News reported. She had just gotten off a New Jersey Transit bus on her commute home from work in Swedesboro when she was hit.

A GoFundMe page in her memory had raised more than $3,500 from at least 38 donations as of press time.

"She was a bright light in our lives, always willing to lend a helping hand," wrote Rosanna Mahan, the fundraiser's organizer and Carla's sister. "Her loss has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled."

Anyone with information about the crash should call the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-580-2223 or the Camden County Police Department at 609-519-8588.
